Barbora Mahdal | Contemporary Artist
ARTIST STATEMENT
Painting is the place where I slow down enough to hear what is moving inside me.
My work grows from moments that I don’t always have words for — tension, softness, memory, release. Abstract painting allows me to let them surface without directing them, only responding to what appears.
I work with raw canvas, layered acrylics, and subtle textures that hold traces of gesture and emotion. Each piece begins with a feeling, a physical sensation in the body — and the composition unfolds from there. I’m drawn to quiet transitions: the shift between control and surrender, chaos and calm, presence and what lingers underneath.
Rather than illustrating a story, my paintings create a space for the viewer to sense their own. They offer stillness, openness, and a moment of meeting — where something internal can be felt rather than explained.
About
My name is Barbora Mahdal
Welcome to a space where colors sometimes behave better than people – and sometimes not.
I’m an artist who loves the moment when the brush takes off before the mind has time to plan. My paintings emerge intuitively – through layering, erasing, discovering, and the occasional beautiful accident.
Sometimes they resemble a landscape, a mood, or a cup of coffee spilled on canvas… but intentionally.
